Erykah Badu’s Livestream Platform

Updated: May 11, 2020

With COVID-19 beating the breaks off of all our plans, such as celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations, celebrity artists are scrambling to keep their fans entertained while keeping themselves relevant. Artists are turning to social media more than ever. We are seeing more and more live streams on Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook lives.

Badu’s concerts were getting canceled indefinitely, she decided to launch her concert series, “Quarantine Concert Series: The Apocalypse.” Many fans were excited they could see the Queen of  Neo-Soul, only to find out she was charging $1 to watch her perform.

In an interview with Shondaland, she says, “I had to figure out what I would do to sustain myself and everyone who I support. Live touring is the main source of our income, so that meant something had to be done. I didn’t just want to put an iPhone on a tripod and stream from a live feed. The first thing I thought about is doing something that helps still build morale, encourage my team, and keep us employed.”

I don’t know about you but I‘ll gladly pay a few dollars to watch one of my favorite songstresses, in the comfort of my own home (a homebodies dream), lighting some candles, enjoying a few glasses of wine, and watching her on my big ass tv in my living room.
